Two Dilworth Paxson Partners To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

May 11, 2016 (Philadelphia, PA – Dilworth Paxson is pleased to announce that Firm partners Stephen J. Harmelin and Joseph H. Jacovini will both receive a 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from The Legal Intelligencer, America’s oldest daily legal newspaper, currently celebrating its 173rd anniversary. The Legal is recognizing elite lawyers “who have helped to shape the law in Pennsylvania, whether through their work on the bench, assisting those in need of legal services, building a firm or any other means.”

In recognition of two exceptional careers spanning more than four decades each, Dilworth Chairman and CEO Ajay Raju said, “Many lawyers strive to build great careers. Unquestionably, Steve and Joe have built great careers, but they have done so much more; they have built great legacies. Not only are they possessed of tremendous legal minds and exceptional talents in the practice of law, but each embodies the virtue of service, a virtue that is integral to the lawyer’s vocation but so commonly overlooked in these times. Through their service to the institutions that are close to their hearts —Drexel University, The Barnes Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the National Constitution Center, the Philadelphia Orchestra (the list goes on and on) — Joe and Steve have put service at the forefront of their professional lives, and in doing so have made Philadelphia a better place while reminding us what it truly means to be a lawyer.

The fact that two such remarkable individuals as Steve and Joe would carry out their great work under the auspices of the Dilworth law firm is for us, their colleagues, a blessing and a tremendous source of collective satisfaction. But it’s no coincidence that the institution associated with eminent names like Kalish, Coleman, and, of course, Richardson Dilworth, would produce another pair of leaders so accomplished. That our firm is an environment in which excellence thrives is a testament to the longstanding values, culture, and pride of purpose that we all strive to steward as bearers of the Dilworth standard. Joe and Steve would be the first to say that this latest honor bestowed upon them is one to be shared by all of us. And in their grace and graciousness, they would mean it. But for now, let us congratulate these two great leaders, lawyers, and friends; the honor is all theirs.”

On June 21, an event honoring the Lifetime Achievement Award winners, along with Attorney of the Year finalists and Lawyers on the Fast Track winners, will take place at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia.
