Dilworth’s Linda Dale Hoffa Appointed to Investigating Grand Jury Task Force by The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania

July 20, 2017 (Philadelphia, PA) – Dilworth Paxson LLP is pleased to announce that Linda Dale Hoffa, a partner in the Firm and Chair of the White Collar/Corporate Investigations Group, has been appointed as a member of the Investigating Grand Jury Task Force by The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

The task force, chaired by Judge Anthony M. Mariani, has been requested to conduct a comprehensive review of investigating grand juries. Areas subject to examination include, but are not limited to, training for supervising jurists, imposition of gag orders on some grand jury witnesses, collateral consequences of swearing attorneys to secrecy, and the possible blurring of boundaries between supervising judges and prosecutors. Meetings will occur at the Pennsylvania Judicial Center in Harrisburg. 

Linda, recognized as one of Philadelphia’s leading white-collar attorneys, has conducted hundreds of investigations and numerous high-profile trials for clients that include physicians, attorneys, business owners, elected officials, corporations, and non-profits facing a broad spectrum of white-collar investigations. Her prior experience as the Criminal Division Chief at the Philadelphia U.S. Attorney’s Office and as the Senior Executive Deputy Attorney General at the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office provides her with unique insight into law enforcement’s investigative and trial strategies. 

Having worked on an extensive range of white-collar cases—including financial and securities fraud, corruption, criminal tax, antitrust, False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, environmental criminal cases, as well as sex and violent crimes—and in recognition of her trial skills, Linda was inducted in 2007 as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

During her tenure as a federal prosecutor, Linda served in policy positions as the Chair of the Criminal Chiefs Working Group for the U.S. Department of Justice, and as Senior Criminal Counsel at the Senate Judiciary Committee. On two separate occasions, she was awarded the DOJ’s Director’s Award for Superior Performance for complex case trials.

After working at the U.S. Department of Justice, Linda was the Senior Executive Deputy Attorney General at the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. She also worked at the Governor’s Office of General Counsel as the Executive Deputy General Counsel for Criminal Justice where she was the most senior attorney handling criminal-related issues for all Commonwealth agencies. Linda currently teaches a course she designed called “The Law of Investigations” at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Temple University Law School.
