Tom Schorr has concentrated his practice in representing a wide range of insurers in complex coverage matters for over 25 years.  He has substantial experience in environmental, construction defect, professional liability, employer liability and general liability claims.  While representing insurers in litigated matters at both the trial and appellate level, Tom also regularly counsels insurers regarding duty to defend issues, bad faith claims, excess liability exposure, additional insured questions and priority of coverage assessments.  In addition to his insurance coverage work, Tom also maintains a commercial litigation practice representing creditors and small business owners in numerous different contexts

  • Serving as lead counsel to a major property and casualty insurer in successfully rescinding a commercial property policy based on the policyholder’s misrepresentations.
  • Serving at both the trial and appellate level as lead counsel to a specialty insurer in successfully defending a multi-million dollar additional insured claim.
  • Serving as lead counsel to a specialty insurer in liability transfer agreement litigation addressing environmental remediation in excess of $20MM.
  • Serving as lead trial counsel to a specialty insurer in bad faith trial.
  • Serving as lead trial counsel to a major property and casualty insurer in three week environmental coverage trial.
  • Serving as lead arbitration counsel in multi-year first party business interruption claim.
  • Serving as lead trial counsel to small business in trade dress and copyright action securing verdicts against both defendants.
  • Serving as lead trial counsel to a major property and casualty insurer in connection with a state’s investigation of alleged improper rate setting.
  • Serving as lead trial and appellate counsel to a major provider of on-line services in connection with a challenge to the provider’s successful bid for a multi-million dollar contract with the New Jersey Sports/Exposition Authority.
  • Serving as lead counsel to a major property and casualty insurer in numerous different environmental and asbestos coverage actions pending throughout the country in which separate policyholders sought to recover damages in excess of $100,000.
