This is a nationwide qui tam action on behalf of the United States and 26 States against PharMerica Corp. for alleged violations of the federal False Claims Act and corollary state statutes. Relators allege that PharMerica, the second largest long-term care pharmacy in the country, relied on an archaic dispensing system and weak internal controls, which permitted pharmacists to dispense prescription drugs without a valid, legal prescription and alter prescriptions without physician consent.
