Dilworth Paxson Partner Joshua D. Wolson Confirmed As A Federal Judge In Pennsylvania’s Eastern District

May 2, 2019 (Philadelphia, PA) – Dilworth Paxson LLP is pleased to announce that the U.S. Senate has confirmed Joshua D. Wolson to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Wolson is a partner in the firm’s litigation group where he has practiced since 2008. During that time, he has represented plaintiffs and defendants in complex litigation matters, including antitrust, RICO, intellectual property, procurement, and civil rights disputes. He also serves as a co-chair of the firm’s Plaintiffs’ Rights Practice Group and was a member of its Executive Committee. Before joining Dilworth, Wolson practiced in the litigation and antitrust groups of Covington & Burling LLP in Washington, D.C.

President Donald J. Trump announced Wolson’s nomination on May 10, 2018, to the seat that was vacated by Judge James Knoll Gardner, who assumed senior status on April 3, 2017. Gardner himself replaced Judge Jan DuBois, for whom Wolson previously served as a law clerk upon graduation from law school. Wolson earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School.

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is one of the original thirteen federal judiciary districts created by the Judiciary Act of 1789. It originally sat in Independence Hall in Philadelphia as the United States District Court for the District of Pennsylvania and is now located at the James Byrne Courthouse at 601 Market Street in Philadelphia. There are Eastern District federal courtrooms in Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, and Easton.

The Court’s jurisdiction includes Philadelphia, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, and Northampton counties. The district is a part of the Third Circuit, and appeals are taken to that Circuit, except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the Federal Circuit. The current Chief Judge for the Eastern Pennsylvania District Court is Judge Juan Ramon Sanchez.
