Dilworth Paxson LLP Announces a New Partner in the Health Care Group

April 12, 2016 (Philadelphia, PA) – Dilworth Paxson LLP is proud to announce an important addition to its Health Care practice with Ms. Renee H. Martin joining the firm as a partner.

Renee Martin’s practice focuses primarily on the representation of mental health and substance abuse providers, hospitals, home health care agencies, Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s), skilled nursing facilities and other facilities in matters involving Medicare and Medicaid regulatory compliance, licensure, survey and enforcement actions, reimbursement, and healthcare related transactions.

Renee is also a recognized leader in the compliance and data breach response industries, providing and coordinating a variety of legal and professional services and audit products to identify, manage and remediate risk vis-à-vis the privacy, security and breach notification regulations promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH).

As Karen Palestini, a Dilworth partner and Chair of the Health Care Group notes, “Renee is a key player in Dilworth Paxson’s drive to deliver exceptional legal counsel across the spectrum of provider-side healthcare service lines in the post-Affordable Care Act environment. Renee’s clinical proficiency, adroit intellect, and comprehensive knowledge of the long-term care and sub-acute industry sectors will be a dynamic complement to our practice. In addition, Renee’s extensive privacy, security, and compliance expertise will amplify the impact of our current transactional, regulatory, and risk management/litigation capabilities.”

Before engaging in law, Renee received a Master’s degree, which led to working as a critical care nurse for a number of years. She has extensive clinical experience with hospitals, physician groups, and long-term care facilities, which enables her to provide unparalleled value to clients desiring to satisfy increasingly complex quality improvement and patient safety goals, and population health management obligations.

Renee regularly counsels clients regarding patient safety regulatory compliance and support in the implementation of policies and procedures and clinical protocols to ensure that patient safety and quality care is provided in the institutions and physician practices she advises.

Renee works with client operations and business teams to develop, market, and implement pay for performance, value-based purchasing, and full-risk payment initiatives. She also guides clients in their efforts to maintain and optimize their patient safety practices in a manner consistent with Medicare, Medicaid, and accreditation requirements, and assists clients in strategizing and coordinating effective responses when safety concerns and reimbursement issues arise in relation to survey and enforcement activities.

Renee has served on a number of non-profit boards over the past several years and is currently on the Board of Directors for Community Volunteers in Medicine. She graduated from Villanova University with honors, where she received both her J.D. and M.S.N.
