Dilworth Partner Speaks at Patent Law Symposium

Philadelphia, PA - Dilworth Paxson partner and executive committee member, Thomas S. Biemer, recently served as a moderator at the Patent Law Symposium For Financial Institutions sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) held in New York City.

Mr. Biemer, moderating a panel of three financial industry attorneys from Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., Credit Suisse Securities and Lehman Brothers Inc., discussed and debated patentable subject matter and the challenges of business method patents in the financial services industry as well as the future of business method patents in the field. This debate is of particular relevance given the Federal Circuit's recent decision to reconsider whether certain innovations in the financial service sector are eligible for patent protection.

Mr. Biemer serves as Co-Chair of Dilworth Paxson's E-Commerce Group and concentrates his practice in sophisticated litigation matters including trademark and patent infringement.
