Dilworth Paxson Educates Local Attorneys And Business Owners At E-Discovery SeminarDilworth Paxson recently hosted a seminar entitled “E-Discovery From Both A Legal & Practical Perspective: What You Really Need To Know”, a CLE-accredited program sponsored by the Insurance Society of Philadelphia and held in the Firm’s Philadelphia office. Presenters included Dilworth attorneys Eric B. Meyer, Esq., Edward W. Chang, Esq., and Scott P. Shectman, Esq. and guest speaker Mollie C. Nichols, Esq., Senior VP/Counsel, First Advantage Litigation Consulting. The seminar was designed to educate both lawyers and their clients about the recent changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the treatment of electronically-stored information. However, unlike similar programs, the presenters went one step further to discuss compliance with the amended Rules from both a legal and business perspective. Mr. Meyer focused his presentation on the new federal rules of civil procedure and the treatment of electronic documents. He is a member of Dilworth Paxson’s Litigation Department and its Labor and Employment Group. Mr. Meyer dedicates his practice to litigating and providing counsel to employers on labor and employment issues affecting the workplace. In addition, he was recognized by the Legal Talk Network and Law.com as an expert in the field of electronic discovery. In his presentation, Mr. Chang addressed the timing and substance of implementing litigation holds in the context of electronic documents. Mr. Chang is a member of Dilworth Paxson’s Litigation Department and Insurance Coverage Group. As a member of the Litigation Department, Mr. Chang litigates matters in state and federal court, including assisting clients in suits involving contractual disputes, defamation, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Federal Arbitration Act, and shareholder valuation disputes. Mr. Shectman’s discussion focused on recent case developments under the amended rules, particularly emphasizing recent court decisions discussing Rules 26(b)(2)(B) and 34 (b)(ii). Mr. Shectman is a member of Dilworth Paxson’s Litigation Department and its Bankruptcy and Insolvency Group, and his practice includes litigating in federal and state courts, as well as alternative dispute resolution forums, concerning various contractual, lending and construction related disputes. In her presentation entitled “Forensic Experts: Do I Need One,” Ms. Nichols identified several key points including the use of computer forensics experts; authentication of data; data collection methods; forensic investigation; data identification; and litigation experts. She serves as Senior VP and Counsel for First Advantage Litigation Consulting. Ms. Nichols advises lawyers, law firms, and corporation on legal strategies in the preservation, collection, and production of electronic information during the litigation process. |
