Areas of Focus:

Chair, Litigation Department and Bankruptcy Group. Mr. McMichael concentrates his practice in commercial litigation and insolvency matters.  He has over 28 years of trial experience in both federal and state courts, and has tried, as lead counsel, major jury and non-jury cases.

Represents: numerous, high-profile clients in commercial matters. He is presently the lead litigation counsel for members of the Rigas family in more than 50 pending cases arising out of Adelphia Communications Corporation.

Representative Matters:

  • Represents the Rigas family in criminal and civil proceedings arising our of the collapse of Adelphia Communications Corporation.

  • Represents Sanjay Kumar, former CEO of Computer Associates, in connection with both civil and criminal proceedings.

  • Serves as lead counsel for the Republic of Uruguay in connection with an international banking dispute involving more than $150,000,000.

  • Represents the debtors in a hotel bankruptcy case involving approximately $100,000,000 in debt, much of which is represented by tax exempt New York IDA bonds secured by mortgages on the debtors' hotels.

  • Represented a Merrill Lynch bond fund in a dispute over the fair market value of a petroleum tank farm located in Louisiana.

  • Represented a defendant, a New York based broker-dealer, specializing in short-selling transactions.
